Reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting cycling – Team Interhydraulik succeeds at CITY CYCLING

2.395 kilometers.
21 days.
172 trips.
Almost 400 kg CO₂ saved.

We can look back on a great result after three weeks of CITY CYCLING in the Unna district.

At CITY CYCLING, cities, towns, and counties compete against each other to rack up as many cycling kilometers as possible over a 21-day period. To encourage a competitive spirit, there are separate leaderboards within each municipality for teams, schools, companies, and individuals.
In addition to climate protection, CITY CYCLING also aims to promote cycling within municipalities and identify areas where cycling infrastructure needs improvement.

For the city of Selm (part of the district of Unna), 67 teams took part and collectively covered over 167,500 km by bike. In doing so, they saved 27 tons of CO₂—the equivalent of the annual emissions of three people in Germany. That’s quite a lot.

Our team has clocked nearly 2,400 kilometers on their bikes—thanks to the dedicated efforts of 11 colleagues who left their cars at home as often as possible and pedaled hard instead. Here are our internal top 3:
– 1st place: Christian with 539 km
– 2nd place: Jürgen with 534 km
– 3rd place: Danny with 356 km

For his outstanding performance, the winner was rewarded with a €30 gift certificate for “Kunstwerk,” a cocktail and burger bar in Selm. Congratulations, Christian!
A big thank you also goes to the other 10 colleagues who helped us finish in 24th place in Selm. A great achievement.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s CITY CYCLING and hope we can beat our record then.
